Bottineau Block Party Kit
In response to declining participation at the neighborhood wide national Night Out party and the increase in smaller block parties  BNA would like to encourage all blocks and/or apartments to hold your own NNO Block party.

To help you, BNA will provide a Block Party Kit to each party being held on August 5th.  The kit contains:
  • plates, utensils, napkins and biodegradable cups for 50,
  • name tags and pen,
  • a box of sidewalk chalk,
  • a trash bag for clean up,
  • a problem solving guide (help with abandoned house, graffiti, traffic problems and more),
  • invitation flyers in English, Spanish and Somali (we can help with translation),
  • a 2008 Blue Sky Guide (over 300 coupons for grocery, entertainment, home and garden stuff and more), and
  • it all comes in a reusable Green Bag bag for you to keep.
The Bottineau Neighborhood Association will also meet your printing needs.  If you need  invitation flyers, simply provide us an original and we'll print as many as you need and drop them off.  If you think your party is going to be bigger than 50, let us know and we will work to get you extra stuff.

If you would like to close your street for the party, BNA staff will be available to help register your event with the Minneapolis Police (you can get even more stuff if you do). Not all streets can be closed.  See the map below for the streets that can be closed (colored blue).

BNA also encourages landlords and other property owners to be invited.  BNA can help with locating and covering mailing costs for invitations.

Call or e-mail BNA for more information (see below).
Top 10 Reasons to have a Block Party
(credit to the City of Vancouver, BC website)

10. To meet some of the old time residents in the neighborhood and learn about its history.
9. To "use" the street for one day, for example to roller blade, play hockey or dance.
8. To plan a campaign for traffic slowdown, better lighting, a new neighborhood park or other residents' concerns.
7. To organize a babysitting co-op, share walking to school duties or find new friends for your children.
6. To meet a neighbor who can help you with gardening tips.
5. To make connections within the community, for example, exchanging skills such as learning a new language or how to cook a traditional dish.
4. To organize neighborhood Block Club.
3. To increase the sense of belonging to the community.
2. To meet your neighbors so that you will know who belongs to the neighborhood and increase your ability to identify strangers.
And the number one reason,
1. To have fun - no excuse or reason is needed to celebrate.
