BNA received a small grant from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization to work with a couple neighborhood property owners to install two raingardens, one in a commercial setting and one residential. Here are some details of the projects.
@ 2400 2nd Street
Before, all storm run off from the building was directed straight to 24th Ave.
The addition of two rain barrels captures the first 100 gallons from a rain (or about a 0.1" rain fall).
The garden area was hand dug - a pick axe was needed. Soil removed was used to correct a grading issue on the north side of the building.
There were several delays from very heavy rains. This photo shows what just over half an inch of rain looks like.
Eight different MN native flowers and two types of grasses were planted - almost 200 plants in all.
